Ensera Design celebrates two Good Design award wins for 2025

Ensera Design is delighted to announce that we have been recognized with two GOOD DESIGN® awards for 2025, celebrating our work across medical devices and consumer health. This year’s awards honor the contributions of both our US team, for their work supporting the development of the MIDAS™ Digital Touchscreen Flowmeter, and our UK team, for their role in helping bring the Uplifts homelift to market for Stannah. Together, these projects demonstrate how thoughtful design can improve clinical workflows, empower users in their homes, and enhance health, independence and overall quality of life.

MIDAS™ Digital Touchscreen Flowmeter

Parker Hannifin / Porter (Ensera Design US)

The award‑winning MIDAS™ Digital Touchscreen Flowmeter marks a significant advancement in the effective delivery of nitrous oxide and oxygen within dental settings. Historically, the market has been dominated by manual devices that provide limited feedback and rigid interaction models. MIDAS replaces these constraints with a modern, intuitive touchscreen, giving clinicians precise, touch‑based control that works reliably through gloves and protective drapes.

Working on behalf of Parker Hannifin / Porter, our US team supported the creation of the product’s digital interface and user experience, helping to reimagine the flowmeter interaction to improve clarity, visibility and ease of use. While the touchscreen enables the primary control interface, essential safety functions, such as the emergency flush, remain as dedicated physical buttons to ensure immediate tactile access in critical situations.

Our team contributed to the system’s versatility by helping define a solution that could be installed on walls, carts or integrated cabinetry, adapting to varied clinical environments. Throughout development, we collaborated closely with Parker Hannifin / Porter to evaluate prototypes, explore alternative interface concepts, and conduct human factors studies to help ensure the interaction model met safety and usability expectations.

The resulting system introduces a future‑ready digital workflow to a traditionally mechanical domain, offering clinicians a more responsive, visually clear and user‑friendly experience.

Uplifts homelift

Stannah (Ensera Design UK)

The award–winning Uplifts homelift is a standout example of consumer health innovation, helping people with reduced mobility maintain independence, safety and comfort within their own homes. Working in partnership with Stannah, our Bristol team supported the development of Uplifts through a combination of industrial design, engineering input and usability insight, helping bring a discreet through‑floor lift solution to market.

Stannah’s ambition was to create a homelift that was compact, attractive, cost‑effective and able to support diverse mobility needs. The resulting S2 and S3 models accommodate everything from standing passengers to full‑size wheelchairs, while maintaining a discreet footprint that integrates seamlessly into a variety of home environments.

A key focus of the project was rapid, low‑disruption installation. Stannah’s engineering and manufacturing teams developed a self‑supporting structure that avoids the need for wall fixings, allowing installation often within a single day. Our role included supporting user‑centered design considerations, helping refine how the product would be packaged, assembled, operated and maintained.

Safety features such as obstruction‑detection sensors, an independent braking mechanism and secure call functionality provide reassurance for users and families. Since its first installations in Autumn 2024, Uplifts has seen strong demand, highlighting the growing need for accessible mobility solutions that support long‑term health and independence at home.
