The Ethnic Diversity Excellence Program

Our Ethnic Diversity Excellence Program (EDE) is back for a fourth year. This program is Ensera Design’s pro-active response to the visible lack of diversity within the UK design industry.

We believe that Ensera Design, and the wider innovation, design and product development industry, need to do more to mirror the diversity of whom we are designing for within the UK and beyond.

The Ethnic Diversity Excellence Program is an opportunity for individuals entering their third year of university from minority ethnic and heritage communities to take part in a funded internship at Ensera Design that sits within Innovation, Product Design, Usability, Mechanical Engineering, or Electronics and Software. Supported by an industry-wide EDE Council, with council members from Astrazeneca, Boots, FluoretiQ, LettUs Grow, Reckitt and Unilever, the program offers three people an immersive, supportive opportunity to learn and develop within an industry environment.

What does the EDE Program offer?

As well as mentoring from Ensera Design and further development opportunities from our industry partners, the program provides £2,000 sponsorship each of the successful candidates and up to an additional £1,000 per person for travel and accommodation.

We commit to give our EDE Interns up to 8 weeks of our time and support throughout the final academic year. This can take place either face-to-face in our office or remote.

The program is designed to equip interns with the knowledge and skills focused on their final year project and help support their future entry into the design industry. The opportunity is a great way to gain insight and knowledge of an exciting and unique consultancy as well as making connections with experts throughout the business.

Who can apply?

Candidates must:

  • Have no restrictions on living/working in the UK.
  • Be able to commit to all aspects of the program.
  • Working on a final year project, the core focus of which sits within one or more of these disciplines: Innovation, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or Electronics and Software.
  • Be entering the final year of your undergraduate degree in Autumn 2024 on a product design, innovation or engineering course with an ambition of working in the design and product development sector.
  • Willing to become a program advocate, working alongside Ensera Design to raise awareness within schools and universities of the program and potential career paths within design.
