The Challenge

Making blue light dermatology therapy available to people at home.

Dermatology specialists Ambicare create light sources for skincare and wanted to develop a device that was safe and easy-to-use.

The Solution

We developed an array of high intensity LEDs emitting blue light wavelength clinically proven to treat acne bacteria, housed in a compact device, contoured to the face, providing a safe, painless and natural acne therapy.

The Execution

Starting with key technical considerations relating to light wavelength and intensity, we identified suitable LED components and potential configurations. We then focused on form factor and usability for the light pad, with particular emphasis on safety. We developed several patented features, including light pads that fit facial contours and areas affected by acne. Our teams oversaw the engineering, component procurement and production of prototypes for clinical trials, leading to submission and approval as Class IIA medical device.

In a clinical trial in 2021 participants using Lustre Solo 4 – 6 times per week reported:

75% reduction in inflammatory lesions within 4 weeks
80% overall reduction in seborrhoea by 12 weeks
80% tightening of pores by 12 weeks
