The Challenge
Develop an ergonomic and user centric device for facilitating user precision.
The DeNovo device allowed for Microneedling for aesthetics purposes and required a balance of comfort and precision for clinicians to perform the procedure with confidence in this wireless device.

The Solution
After understanding the user’s needs and context of use, we were able to quickly generate concepts that focused on how the user interacted with the SkinPen. Our designers used their skills in rapid prototyping to create multiple models allowing each form to be quickly evaluated.

The Execution
Our team partnered with Bellus Medical to design and engineer the SkinPen’s external housing and charging station. The process began with workflow studies and human factors research, followed by iterative concept sketching and foam model prototyping. Clinicians evaluated form, balance, and usability, directly informing refinements. Once validated, designs were translated into manufacturable CAD models aligned with production constraints. The result was a durable, ergonomic, and professional-looking device that elevated the user experience, streamlined treatment, and reinforced Bellus’s reputation for safe, effective microneedling.
