The Challenge

Ostomy product specialists Eakin Healthcare wanted to better understand how to deliver comfort, convenience and practicality in ostomy pouches.

People with stomas face a range of challenges in using and managing their ostomy pouches – both practically and emotionally. The goal of the project was to understand user needs and develop a new range of ostomy pouches achieving new levels of comfort, convenience and practicality.

The Solution

The new pouches include a range of features which address needs of discretion, comfort and confidence in wearing.

The Execution

Users told us how important the size and shape were, so we worked with the Eakin team to test and refine the shape as the bag filled, helping users maintain control and confidence throughout the day.

A key user insight related to the benefit of matching to underwear and clothing and led to the creation of a black option. The new fabric is light, quick-drying and comfortable against the skin.

The new pouches include a large clear viewing window for positioning the bag on the stoma and monitoring the output. The discretion fold feature allows the bag to be minimized for occasions when discreetness is important.
