Surgeons in an operating theatre performing an operation

Designing Hologic’s latest generation specimen radiography system for breast conserving surgeries and stereotactic breast biopsies

The Challenge

Observing specimen radiography and translating insights into tangible, cutting-edge design

To create the next generation of Hologic’s Trident our team visited 4 locations, observed 11 cases, and interviewed 8 users. The compiled report and workflow map generated almost 40 insights with actionable items.

The Solution

Our team worked to optimize the footprint size and user interactions for the valuable OR space and intended end-users. This included developing a combination touchscreen and capacitive button UI interface for seamless usability.

The Execution

We went through rounds of concept exploration, pushing the possibilities within constructive boundaries and integrating research’s user insights. Hologic provided brand language guidelines that allowed us to evolve them but still maintain the look and feel associated with Hologic’s reputation.

We merged physical and digital user interactions to elevate the experience in both operation as well as for the cleaning process involved in operating room environments.

Through design and engineering collaboration over sketches, prototypes, and CAD, the best concept was chosen to move forward by all parties.
